Full Disclosure: This first edition was written using Google Audio Overview. I couldn’t wait until the end of the week to try out the tool, and I didn’t want to over-edit… Yeah, you get it. Fomo. I really wanted to test the tool’s ability to save me time as a creator, specifically for a project like this "podcast-letter series" I had in mind. I wanted to see how quickly I could turn it into a podcast and how well I could integrate different types of sources, feeding them into the tool to see what it would generate. So, I apologize in advance—this first edition is more of an experiment. But if I can master this tool and the results are promising, the Hash Tech newsletter will definitely grow from here.
Your feedback is more than welcome! Feel free to share your thoughts or suggestions in the comments to help me improve and refine future editions!
Chain of Thought (CoT)
Description:
Chain of Thought (CoT) is an advanced reasoning method used by AI models to break down complex tasks into smaller, manageable steps. This method allows AI to solve intricate problems by processing them step-by-step, improving accuracy and transparency. Particularly useful in sectors like mathematics, programming, and science, CoT enables AI to provide well-structured, logical responses to complex inquiries.
Why it’s trending:
Recently, the launch of OpenAI’s models like Strawberry and Orion, along with the o1-preview and o1-mini, has brought CoT back into the spotlight. These models use CoT to enhance the transparency and depth of reasoning, making them valuable in fields like healthcare and finance, where transparency and precision are crucial. In addition, CoT’s relevance has been highlighted by Google DeepMind’s continued research in AI reasoning.
For those looking to dive deeper into the Chain of Thought concept, Benoit Raphael’s article on Generation IA is a must-read: Everything You Need to Know About ChatGPT o1 “Strawberry”. It’s a comprehensive breakdown of the latest developments.

Google Audio Overview
Description:
Google’s Audio Overview, part of the NotebookLM platform, is a feature that transforms text documents into interactive audio discussions between AI-generated voices. Unlike traditional text-to-speech, this system generates a dialogue between AI “hosts” who banter, discuss, and explain complex subjects in a podcast-like format. This tool aims to improve comprehension for auditory learners by providing personalized audio experiences.
Why it’s trending:
With the rise of multimodal AI, tools like Google’s Audio Overview are capturing attention. They bridge the gap between reading and listening, catering to diverse learning styles. The surge in attention comes after Google announced updates to this tool during their recent I/O event. You can read more about the implications in TechRadar’s analysis of Audio Overview.
Founder Mode
Description:
Founder Mode refers to a leadership style where the company’s founder remains deeply involved in daily operations, even after the business has scaled. This mode contrasts with the traditional Manager Mode, which focuses on delegation. Founder Mode is championed by figures like Brian Chesky (Airbnb) and inspired by Steve Jobs, emphasizing hands-on involvement to maintain innovation and agility.
Why it’s trending:
Founder Mode is making headlines due to a viral essay by Paul Graham from Y Combinator, which critiques the standard managerial approach and advocates for founders remaining engaged in company operations. This discussion has resonated with entrepreneurs navigating the challenges of scaling startups. More on this can be found in Paul Graham’s essay on Founder Mode.
Chatbot Arena
Description:
Chatbot Arena is an online platform where AI models compete in real-time, allowing users to compare and vote on their performance anonymously. The platform uses a ranking system similar to Elo, commonly used in chess, to score models like Claude 3, GPT-4 Turbo, and others.
Why it’s trending:
Chatbot Arena has become a key resource for developers and businesses aiming to understand the strengths and weaknesses of various AI models. It’s particularly relevant now as AI technology rapidly evolves, and businesses look for the most effective models to integrate into their systems. You can read about these comparisons and battles on Chatbot Arena’s official platform.
GenBio
Description:
GenBio (Generative Biology) leverages AI models to simulate and analyze biological processes, accelerating breakthroughs in fields like biotechnology, drug discovery, and personalized medicine. AI models generate biological structures, genetic sequences, and simulate complex biological reactions.
Why it’s trending:
The rise of AI in biological research, especially with breakthroughs like DeepMind’s AlphaFold, has positioned GenBio as a crucial tool for rapid medical advancements. With significant funding and research momentum, GenBio is transforming traditional approaches to understanding biology and developing new treatments.
